LOGAN — Police arrested a 34-year-old Logan man Daniel Dau Saturday morning, accused of badly beating his roommate with a baseball bat.
Logan City Police Capt. Curtis Hooley said officers were called to an apartment near 200 West 700 South around 2:30 a.m. When they arrived on scene, they found the victim, a 36-year-old man bleeding from his head, lying in the roadway.
Officers began treating the man and called for paramedics. They transported him to Logan Regional Hospital. He reportedly suffered a fractured skull and was later transported to a Salt Lake area hospital for treatment of a concussion.
Hooley said the victim and another witness told officers, Dau came home earlier in the night intoxicated. He went into his room and started playing loud music, waking up the other occupants of the home.
When they confronted Dau, asking him to turn down his music, the defendant allegedly grabbed a baseball bat and began striking the victim in the head.
The victim told officers that Dau followed him out of the home yelling threats at him, as he tried to flee.
Hooley said officers found Dau inside the home. They also found a baseball bat and blood inside the room where the alleged assault took place.
Dau was later arrested on two felony offenses of aggravated assault and attempted murder, and also misdemeanor intoxication. He is being held on $22,000 bail.
Hooley said officers have been in contact with the County Attorney’s Office, who are expected to file formal charges pending the investigation.
