LOGAN — A 19-year-old Brigham City man has been arrested for brandishing a gun during a domestic dispute in Mendon, according to law enforcement. Bryant Wayne Chournos was booked Sunday into the Cache County Jail.
According to law enforcement, Cache County Sheriff’s deputies were called to an alleged domestic dispute in progress around 3 a.m. on Jan.5. The suspect, later identified as Chournos, was reportedly intoxicated, had a firearm and was wanting to fight.
The complainant reported that Chournos, who she had previously been in a relationship with, had arrived at her Mendon residence uninvited. He allegedly stated to her that he was going to fight with her guests inside the home, pushing his way into a garage door.
The woman told deputies, she told Chournos to leave several times and pushed him towards the door but he resisted. During the dispute, the suspect allegedly slid a small gun out of a holster and into his right hand pocket, according to the probable cause statement.
Chournos reportedly fled the scene before law enforcement arrived.
The alleged victim provided deputies with a video of the altercation. It reportedly showed him refusing to leave and placing the gun in his pocket.
Deputies spoke to Chournos on the phone shortly after arriving at the incident. He denied the allegations of drinking, fighting, or having a gun.
A few hours later, Box Elder County Sheriff’s deputies located Chournos driving his vehicle and took him into custody without incident. Inside the vehicle they reportedly found a small handgun under the seat along with ammunition, and several open containers of alcohol, the arrest paperwork described.
Chournos was arraigned Jan. 6 during a virtual hearing in Logan’s 1st District Court, appearing by web conference from jail. He was charged with aggravated burglary, a first-degree felony; and six other misdemeanors.
Judge Spencer Walsh ordered Chournos to appear again in court Jan. 27. He also set bail at $10,000 and prohibited the suspect from having any contact with the alleged victim.
