BRIGHAM CITY, Utah — A man was arrested Friday after he allegedly broke into a Brigham City home, consumed the residents’ food and alcohol, and pulled a blanket off a sleeping child before being confronted by the homeowners.
Deputies responded to a reported burglary in progress at a residence on South 300 West. According to court documents, surveillance footage showed the suspect, identified as Robert Dudley, entering the home through a back door.
According to an affidavit of probable cause, the victims told investigators Dudley remained inside for more than an hour. During that time, he allegedly ate their food, drank their alcohol, and pulled a blanket off an 8-year-old child sleeping on a couch. The residents subsequently confronted Dudley, yelling at him and prompting him to flee the property.
A K-9 unit later located Dudley hiding in the backyard of a neighboring residence. Deputies noted he was legally prohibited from being at that property under the terms of an active protective order and had been the subject of an earlier call at that same address.
Because two protected individuals were present at the home where he was found, Dudley faces two counts of violating a protective order. Court records indicate he was previously convicted of a similar violation in 2023.
Dudley was booked into the Box Elder County Jail on suspicion of burglary of a dwelling, two counts of violating a protective order, and property damage under $500 in connection with a broken fence near the burglarized home.
“He has shown he has no regard for the law or people’s right to privacy, causing severe alarm and trauma to victims,” arresting deputies wrote in the probable cause affidavit.
Individuals arrested and charged in complaints are presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
