LOGAN — A 63-year-old Logan woman has admitted to abusing a young child but will be spared any further jail time if she completes therapy. Poe Chit was arrested in February after witnesses observed her physically abusing a child.
According to court records, Chit appeared March 23 in Logan’s 1st District Court. She waived her rights to a preliminary hearing and trial, pleading no contest to child abuse, amended to a class A misdemeanor.
The plea meant Chit conceded the alleged crime occurred without admitting guilt or offering a defense. It is still viewed as a guilty plea in court. The plea was held in abeyance, meaning the case can be dismissed if specific conditions are met.
According to prosecutors, the Logan City Police Department was called to investigate a report of child abuse on Oct. 24, 2025. The investigation identified the victim as a 9-year-old child.
Court documents state that a witness observed Chit place the child in a headlock and begin punching the victim. The witness told police the child attempted to get away, but Chit continued to punch them.
