LOGAN – The Utah Recreation and Parks Association (URPA) has named the Broomsticks & Boogie Witches Dance and Halloween Festival sponsored by Logan City as the Outstanding Special Event of 2025.
An award recognizing that event will be presented to the members of the Logan City Council at their regular meeting at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 7 at City Hall.
Organized by the Logan Parks & Recreation Department, the city’s first ever Broomsticks & Boogie Witches Dance and Halloween Festival was held at the Carol and Jim Laub Plaza on Saturday, Oct. 25, 2025.
The city celebration was cited by URPA officials for transforming downtown Logan into a family friend destination that served a broad population, including families, performers and visitors from throughout northern Utah while providing high-quality programming for free or low-cost to the public.
The URPA Outstanding Special Event selection committee noted that the Broomsticks & Boogie Witches Dance and Halloween Festival also provided a successful model for volunteer involvement.
The award-winning 2025 event was a collaboration between city officials, the Hocus Pocus Witches’ Dance group, local businesses, sponsors and volunteers who all contributed their resources and efforts to elevate the Halloween celebration’s quality and broad appeal.
The annual Hocus Pocus Witches’ Dance, with dozens of local women dressed as high-fashion sorceresses, began several years ago in the residential neighborhood on West Center Street after local women saw a viral video of a similar event in Germany. In 2021, city officials coaxed the witches to move that event a few blocks east to become a part of the Halloween celebration in the downtown area.
Founded in 1951, the mission of the Utah Recreation and Parks Association is to actively support and promote the growth, development and preservation of recreation, leisure, parks and natural resources in the State of Utah.
The Logan City Hall is located at 290 West, 100 North in Logan.
