LOGAN — A 16-year-old boy is being investigated for discharging a firearm in city limits after police said he shot himself in the leg Saturday night.
Logan City Police Capt. Curtis Hooley said the boy was home alone when he shot himself just below the kneecap. He reportedly called his grandmother, who then called 911 dispatch to report the incident at the boy’s apartment near 300 S. 400 W.
The boy was taken to the hospital to receive treatment. He has undergone one surgery to repair his kneecap and is expected to need further surgeries. Officers are also investigating other possible charges but have declined to comment because of the boy’s juvenile status.
Hooley said the boy told officers he was about to clean the .40-caliber handgun when it went fired. The bullet traveled through the boy’s leg and then continued into a neighboring apartment. No one else was injured.
