LOGAN – City officials here are inviting local residents to ring in the New Year’s holiday with a “Skate to the Beats” event at the Carol and Jim Laub Plaza in downtown Logan.

That event is slated to take place during the 6 and 8 p.m. skating sessions at the plaza’s ice rink on Thursday, Jan. 1, according to officials of the Logan Parks & Recreation Division.

A Facebook post dated Dec. 29 promises that the city’s “Skate to the Beats” festivities will feature music by a live disc jockey, food trucks, festival lights and winter fun.

The city announcement advises residents that regular admission fees for the 6 and 8 p.m. skate sessions on New Year’s Day will apply and that the number of skaters in each of those sessions will be limited.

During the period of New Year’s Day through the following Saturday (Jan. 1 to Jan. 3), the Ice Rink will be open for regular hours with skating sessions from noon to 1:30 p.m.; 2 to 3:30 p.m.; 4 to 5:30 p.m.; 6 to 7:30 p.m.; and 8 to 9:30 p.m.

The plaza ice rink’s capacity is 90 skaters per session. Sixty of those spots will allocated for reservations while the reminding 30 will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

Admission to the “Skate to the Beats” sessions will be $5 per person for adults, with discounted $3 tickets for senior citizens, military personnel, students and youngsters three and under.

Ice skates can be rented for $3 per person, with identification required.
