LOGAN – City officials here have begun the annual process of closing Logan park restrooms and ending seasonal park reservations for the winter season.
To protect water lines, the Logan City Parks Division began to close park restrooms and shut off park drinking fountains for the winter season starting Thursday, Oct. 15, according to Julie Cook, a spokesperson for the city’s Parks and Recreation Division.
“The winterization process is a crucial annual maintenance task required to protect park infrastructure,” she explains. “Because most park restrooms do not have internal heating systems, any water left in the lines during a hard freeze can burst pipes and valves, resulting in thousands of dollars in property damage.”
City park officials note that winterizing these facilities is a detailed, time-consuming process that requires draining water from all vulnerable lines across the entire city park system.
While northern Utah often enjoys beautiful, sunny autumn days through October, Cook acknowledges, local weather remains highly unpredictable. The department must initiate these closures early enough to complete all preventative maintenance securely before the first major freeze arrives.
The city also ceased taking reservations for park facilities on Oct. 15. Reservations for those facilities will resume on April 15, 2027.
Cook emphasizes that visitors are encouraged to plan ahead when visiting local parks during the fall and winter months.
