A 26-year-old Logan mother died Sunday afternoon at McKay-Dee Hospital, three days after a vehicle accident Thursday night in Providence.

Utah Highway Patrol Lt Lee Perry said Norma A. Barriga passed away after her family decided to take her off life support Friday afternoon. Her death comes two-days after Andy Barriga, her three-month-old baby son, also died from injuries sustained in the accident.

Family and friends have launched a Gofundme account, asking for donations and prayers for the family.

Troopers report that Barriga was driving a Hyundai Sonata northbound on SR-165, attempting to turn left onto 1700 South, when she turned into the pathway of a truck that was southbound. The Hyundai was broadsided on the passenger side and pushed into a third car.

Norma and Andy were both taken by ambulance to Logan Regional Hospital and later flown to separate area hospitals.

All of the occupants were wearing seat belts and the baby was in a rear facing car seat. Troopers though are investigating whether the car seat was being used correctly.

The accident occurred around 7:00 p.m. Witnesses said the traffic light was yellow at the time of the crash. Troopers believe Barriga failed to yield but are continuing to investigate.
