LOGAN — A 20-year-old Logan man has been sentenced to serve a total of nine months in jail for having a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old girl and dealing drugs. Thadeus Andreu Bel was ordered to serve two more months behind bars after already being incarcerated for seven months.
According to court staff, Bel was sentenced Wednesday morning in 1st District Court. He previously pleaded guilty to an amended charge of forcible sexual abuse, a second-degree felony; and attempted distribution of a controlled substance, a class A misdemeanor.
Bel was arrested after a woman reported being raped to Logan City Police Officers. The girl said she had been in a relationship with him previously.
The victim described how in November 2021 she was at a party and became intoxicated. She decided to walk back to her residence and met Bel on the way. They talked for a while before going back to her home.
The girl told investigators that she and Bel started watching a movie before she fell asleep. When she woke up, a family member described how the defendant had raped her while she was sleeping.
Police interviewed Bel at the time. He admitted to having sex with the juvenile victim repeatedly from May 2021 to Oct. 2021. He stated, “he knew it was wrong but felt like something was missing in his life,” according to officers.
Cache County prosecutors charged Bel, noting how he took indecent liberties with the victim to gratify his own desires. The defendant had also sold marijuana during a controlled buy on Nov. 30, 2021.
During Wednesday’s sentencing, Judge Brian Cannell ordered Bel to serve a total of 270 days in jail, giving credit for the 210 days already served.
