LOGAN — A 24-year-old Logan man has been sentenced to six months in jail for firing a gun through areas of the city last summer, leading SWAT team members to later raid his mobile home. Caleb Jordan Bacca was also ordered to be on probation for three years after telling the court he had no excuse for his drunken behavior.
Bacca was sentenced, Monday, Dec. 18, in Logan’s 1st District Court. He previously accepted a plea deal, pleading guilty to felony discharge of a firearm and endangerment of a child, both third-degree felonies; and misdemeanors for carrying a dangerous weapon under the influence and intoxication.
According to law enforcement, police officers received several 911 calls June 26 describing an individual, later identified as Bacca, with a firearm. He was seen crashing a scooter and then brandishing the gun.
Several callers described how Bacca shot several rounds into the scooter and then got back on it and left the area. He fired several more rounds as he rode away.

Police officers tracked the shooter to a mobile home near 700 N. 500 West, where they cordoned off the area and asked neighbors to stay inside.
SWAT team members attempted to contact Bacca, who was reportedly heavily intoxicated. They eventually took him safely into custody just before midnight.
During Monday’s sentencing, Cache County Deputy Attorney Aaron Jossie said, “the situation could have gone extremely bad.” He noted how law enforcement found 12 bullet casings along 600 West and determined Bacca’s blood alcohol content was .227.
Bacca told the court he hated what happened but expressed appreciation for officers arresting him. He said the incident had put him in rehab and saved his life from alcohol.
Judge Spencer Walsh said there is too much gun violence in our country and we need to keep this from happening. He noted statistics showing how people die everyday from impaired individuals.
Bacca was sentenced to 180 days in jail and 36 months probation. He was given credit for two weeks previously served and will likely be released in May.
