LOGAN — A 25-year-old Logan man has been placed on probation after admitting to lewd conduct in a church parking lot last summer. Kyle Clark Thornock avoided any jail time after his defense attorney claimed his client wasn’t “purposefully” trying to expose himself.
Thornock was sentenced Wednesday morning in 1st District Court in Logan. He previously pleaded guilty to two counts of lewdness, a class B misdemeanor.
On Aug. 16, 2022, Cache County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a man inappropriately touching himself in a church parking lot. Several witnesses were nearby at the time, including children under the age of 14.
Deputies questioned the man, who identified himself as Thornock. He reportedly admitted to the accusations after waiving his Miranda Rights.
Thornock was arrested and booked into the Cache County Jail. He was later released after posting $1,380 bond.
During Wednesday’s court appearance, defense attorney Shannon Demler said Thornock was embarrassed about what happened. He explained how his client had gotten into pornography to deal with depression.
Demler said Thornock had no criminal history before being arrested and was seeking treatment.
Thornock didn’t give any excuse for his actions, but explained the therapy he was receiving.
Judge Cannell said, “This shouldn’t happen in public and certainly not in a church parking lot.” He expressed pleasure that Thornock was engaged in treatment, noting that it would be more beneficial than jail time.
Thornock was ordered to serve 12 months probation, including electronic monitoring to ensure he is not accessing pornographic material on the internet. He was also ordered to complete 20 hours of community service and pay $353 in fines and fees.
