LOGAN — A 33-year-old Logan man has been arrested for allegedly sexually abusing a young girl in Lewiston several years ago, according to law enforcement. Omar Vega-Perez was booked Friday into the Cache County Jail.

According the arrest affidavit, the Cache County Sheriff’s Office received a report of child sex abuse in October 2024. The alleged victim’s father said the incident allegedly occurred in the early month of 2021.

The alleged victim was interviewed at the Cache Children’s Justice Center. She claimed how Vega-Perez had inappropriately touched her during her sixth grade summer.

Deputies noted, the suspect was in a relationship with the girl’s mother at the time of the allegation. He also reportedly would be left alone on some nights while the mother was at work, the probable cause statement detailed.

The alleged victim told investigators how she was lying in bed pretending to be asleep on the evening of the incident. Vega-Perez entered her room and began inappropriately touching her. The actions continued until the girl pretended to wake up.

Deputies confronted Vega-Perez about the allegations. He denied the incident ever took place, claiming the girl and her mother were just trying to get him in trouble, according to the arrest affidavit.

Vega-Perez was arraigned Monday afternoon in Logan’s 1st District Court. He was charged with two counts of aggravated sexual abuse of a child, a first-degree felony.

Cache County Deputy Attorney Aaron Jossie asked the court to hold Vega-Perez in jail without bail. He said the suspect was not a citizen of the United States and may try to flee to Mexico if released.

Judge Angela Fonnesbeck agreed with Josie and refused to set bail. She said it appeared the suspect could leave the country if he was released.

Vega-Perez was ordered to appear again in court April 28. He could face up to life in prison, if convicted.

Individuals arrested and charged in complaints are presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
