LOGAN — A 44-year-old Logan man has been arrested for trying to download child pornography from an undercover police officer, according to law enforcement. Charles Edward McCall was booked Thursday into the Cache County Jail, where he is temporarily being held, pending arraignment on formal charges.
According to charging documents, McCall began messaging the undercover Ogden City Police officer on a popular social media app March 9. The suspect expressed interest in seeing who he thought was the officer’s 12-year-old daughter having sex with other men.
The undercover officer created a fake corrupt video file and sent it to McCall by text and email. Another undercover officer also began posing as the 12-year-old daughter.
McCall reportedly tried to open the file but told officers it wouldn’t play. He then began graphically describing how he wanted to rape the officer, who was posing as the young girl, a probable cause statement explained.
Police located McCall at his workplace Thursday and questioned him. He reportedly admitted to communicating with the officers about having sexual relations with who he thought was a 12-year-old girl. He also acknowledged to receiving the video files and trying to open them.
Jail records show, McCall was booked on suspicion of three counts of enticing a minor and two counts of aggravated sexual exploitation of a minor, all second-degree felonies. Each charge carries a possible sentence of up to 15 years in prison.
Individuals arrested and charged in complaints are presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
