LOGAN — A 36-year-old Logan man has confessed to stabbing a woman multiple times during a domestic dispute last fall.

Santos Mateo Guox Sanches has been in the Cache County Jail since November 23, 2025, after he went to the hospital searching for the victim, whom Logan City police report is his ex-partner

According to court records, Sanches appeared February 18 in Logan’s 1st District Court. He waived his right to a preliminary hearing and fair trial, accepting a plea deal and pleading guilty to aggravated assault resulting in serious bodily injury, a second-degree felony; and domestic violence in the presence of a child, a third-degree felony. Three remaining charges were dismissed.

Charging documents state the victim arrived at the hospital with multiple stab and “defensive” wounds, including a two-to-three-inch laceration behind her ear. She initially told hospital staff the injuries were caused by a knife falling from a piece of furniture while she was cleaning. She later recanted, admitting her ex, Sanches, had stabbed her after a disagreement. Family members then brought her to the hospital for care.

Sanches reportedly arrived at the hospital a few hours later, telling investigators he “wanted to check on her” but “did not disclose any concern for the victim.” He refused to provide a timeline of the night before, according to prosecutors.

When investigators searched the Logan apartment where the attack occurred, they found significant physical evidence. Detectives reported finding blood on the outside railings and in the interior carpets, as well as evidence that blood had been scrubbed from certain areas of the carpet.

Authorities confirmed that three children were inside the home at the time of the attack, with one child reportedly seeing Sanches in the hallway holding a bloody knife. All three children have since been safely removed from the home and are with family members.

Sanches remains being held in jail without bail. He is scheduled to be sentenced April 8, and could face more than 15 years in prison.
