LOGAN — A familiar name in Logan High School football history will officially become part of the stadium Friday night when the school formally names its football field in honor of former head coach Mike Favero.
The dedication of Favero Field will take place at halftime of Logan’s football game against Mountain Crest as part of the school’s Legacy of Champions celebration.
Festivities are scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m., with activities planned before kickoff and during halftime. The evening will also recognize former Logan High football players who went on to play professionally, with some expected to attend.
The Logan City School District Board of Education announced in March that the field would be named for Favero, who led the Grizzlies for 17 seasons and became one of the most successful coaches in the program’s history.
Favero guided Logan to eight region championships and five state titles, winning championships in 2000, 2005, 2007, 2011 and 2015. Those championships came across the 3A, 3AA and 4A classifications.
The district said the honor recognizes Favero’s contributions beyond wins and championships, including his influence on generations of Logan High students and athletes.
“Coach Favero’s record of success speaks for itself, but his true legacy is the impact he had on generations of student-athletes,” Logan City School District Board of Education President Becky Quay said when the naming was announced. “It takes vision, discipline, consistency, and the ability to bring out the very best in young people year after year. The naming of Favero Field honors not only the championships, but the lasting standard of excellence he established at Logan High School.”
Favero has received numerous honors during and after his coaching career. He was named the National Federation of High School Football Coaches Coach of the Year in 2008 and was named Utah coach of the year multiple times. He also received the NSSA Champions Award for Utah.
In 2023, Favero was inducted into the Utah Sports Hall of Fame.
Friday’s ceremony fulfills the district’s March announcement that a formal dedication would be held as the 2026 high school football season began.
The Legacy of Champions celebration is intended to recognize the broader history of Logan High football as well. The district said the event will honor former Grizzlies who continued their playing careers at the professional level while celebrating the program’s tradition and its connection to the Logan community.
The ceremony comes as two longtime Cache Valley rivals meet on the field, with Logan hosting Mountain Crest on the night Favero’s name formally becomes part of the stadium where he built much of his coaching legacy.
