SALT LAKE CITY – Two local lawmakers were among the new leaders selected by members of the Utah Legislature on Nov. 7.
Moving quickly in both chambers of the Legislature following the general election, members of the majority Republican Party convened to elect Sen. Chris Wilson (R-Dist. 2) as Majority Whip in the Senate and to re-elect Rep. Casey Snider (R-Dist. 5) as Majority Assistant Whip in the House.
In the Senate, Wilson will be joining other members of the leadership including President J. Stuart Adams (R-Dist. 7), Majority Leader Kirk Cullimore (R-Dist. 19) and Assistant Majority Whip Mike McKell (R-Dist. 25).
“Utah stands as a beacon of hope,” according to Adams.
Speaking for his new leadership team, the Senate president cited the state’s status as having the nation’s strongest economy, the best economic outlook and the happiest, most charitable people.
“This doesn’t happen by accident,” Adams added. “It’s the result of careful foresight and strategic growth … As the Senate, we will continue crafting sound policies that ensure Utahns and our great state thrive for generations to come.”
Snider will resume his duties along with other members of the House leadership, including Speaker of the House Mike Schultz (R-Dist. 12), Majority Leader Jefferson Moss (R-Dist. 51) and Majority Whip Karianne Lisonbee (R-Dist. 14).
“The House is ready to make big strides as we work to better the lives of Utahns,” Snider predicted after his re-election.
“I’m grateful for the opportunity to continue working alongside an exceptional leadership team and an extraordinary caucus.”
Wilson will replace Sen. F. Ann Millner (R-Dist. 5) as Senate Majority Whip.
Traditionally serving as assistant leaders, the majority whip in the Senate and assistant whip in the House are mainly responsible for counting heads and rounding up party members for votes and quorum calls. They also occasionally stand in for the majority or minority leaders in their absence.
Wilson and Snider will assume their new duties immediately, helping to set the stage for the 66th Legislative session to be held during 2025-2026.
