LOGAN — The victim of Thursday night’s three-vehicle accident in Millville passed away Saturday afternoon. The Cache County Sheriff’s Office announced Randolph “Randy” Wirth, co-owner of Caffe Ibbis died at McKay Dee Hospital, where he was being treated for injuries received in the accident.
The 67-year-old Wirth was known as the “roastmaster” of Caffe Ibis and had a passion for the arts, the community and supporting local businesses.
Wirth was seriously injured when the motorcycle he was riding was somehow involved in the three-vehicle accident, near 140 W. and 200 S.
Cache County Sheriff’s Lt. Mike Peterson said Wirth was struck in the accident, sustaining serious injuries. None of the witnesses saw his motorcycle or how he became pinned under the wreckage of two other vehicles. He was taken by ambulance to Logan Regional Hospital and then airlifted to McKay Dee Hospital, in extremely serious condition.
Peterson said Alvin Hensen of Millville is suspected of causing the accident and driving while intoxicated. The 40-year-old was booked in Cache County Jail Thursday night on charges of driving under the influence, a second-degree felony and two class B misdemeanors.
Peterson said additional charges are being filled against Hensen, including vehicular manslaughter, a second-degree felony. He is expected to be arraigned Monday, in 1st District Court.
Henson was driving a 1993 Dodge Dakota pickup east on 200 South. The truck crossed into the westbound lane, striking a 1999 Cadillac DeVille driven by 51-year-old Clay Wilker.
Witnesses told crash investigators that Henson was driving very erratically and lost control of his vehicle. Deputies said they recognized evidence of alcohol use by both Henson and his passenger, Brian Schofield, 29, of Logan.
Peterson said neither one of the two men should have ever been driving.
