LOGAN — Thanks to a major effort from The Cache Bar, hundreds of families in Cache Valley enjoyed Thanksgiving with a turkey on the table.

The Logan bar donated half of its November food sales to the Cache Community Food Pantry and also tripled all matching donations to ensure the pantry could meet its turkey goal this year.

Each holiday season, Cache Community Food Pantry director Matthew Whitaker faces the challenge of securing enough turkeys for local families in need.

“We typically need about 900 to 1,000 turkeys, give or take,” Whitaker said in an email exchange with Cache Bar owner Mark Lunt. “It looks like they are going for about $15 each for an average size turkey. If I were to purchase all of those, that would be around $14,250. I’m hoping for good donations this year so we don’t have to spend that much.”

Last year, Whitaker told members of the Logan Rotary Club that finding enough turkeys is the most stressful part of his work. At that time, he needed about $5,000 to cover the shortage.

This year, after hearing that the pantry needed nearly three times that amount, The Cache Bar stepped in to help raise the full $14,250.

Their contribution ensured the pantry could supply enough turkeys for every family registered for Thanksgiving assistance across Cache Valley.
