LOGAN — A 47-year-old Lewiston man has been sentenced to at least five years in prison for raping a woman and molesting a young girl for several years. David Garcia has been in the Cache County Jail for over a year, since being arrested Feb. 9, 2024.
According to court records, Garcia was sentenced June 4 in Logan’s 1st District Court. He previously accepted a plea deal, pleading guilty to attempted aggravated sexual abuse of a child, a first-degree felony; and two counts of sex abuse of a child, amended to a second-degree felony.
In July 2023, a woman reached out to CAPSA, a nonprofit domestic violence, sexual abuse and rape recovery center. She explained how she and her children had been victims of sexual and physical abuse for several years.
The woman later spoke to Cache County Sheriff’s deputies, describing how Garcia had raped her several times. The abuse often took place when the Lewiston man had been drinking.
A young girl also told law enforcement how Garcia had molested her for several years. She said the abuse would occur sometime on a nightly basis, when the defendant would enter her bedroom and inappropriately touch her.
During last Wednesday’s sentencing, Judge Brian Cannell ordered Garcia to serve a term of three-years-to-life for the first degree felony, and two terms of one-to-15-years for the second degree felonies. The sentences were ordered to run consecutively.
