LOGAN — A 33-year-old Lewiston man has admitted to stealing power tools and other equipment from numerous vehicles and selling them at several pawn shops. McClain Mark Scott was arrested in December 2024 after Cache County Sheriff’s deputies served a warrant to his home, finding some of the stolen items.

According to court records, Scott appeared June 11 in Logan’s 1st District Court, accepting a plea deal in seven separate cases. He pleaded guilty to four counts of theft, burglary, possession of a controlled substance, endangerment of a child, all third-degree felonies; along misdemeanors for theft and burglary of a vehicle.

As part of the plea resolution, five remaining charges were dismissed without prejudice, meaning they can be refiled at a later date.

According to prosecutors, the Logan City Police Department was called to a vehicle burglary at an apartment complex May 17, 2024. The victim said that power tools were stolen from the bed of their pickup truck, which had been parked at the complex overnight. The items were valued around $3,970.

Law enforcement reported the burglary was similar to other thefts that had occurred throughout the valley.

As the investigation continued, police officers reviewed records from pawn shops along the Wasatch front. It showed that Scott had pawned various items 103 times at different stores between April 2024 and August 2024.

Cache County Sheriff’s deputies obtained a search warrant for Scott’s cell phone data. It showed the defendant in the area on the dates and times the thefts occurred.

On Dec. 23, a search warrant was served on Scott’s residence. Law enforcement reportedly found numerous tools and power tools stolen from multiple vehicle burglaries.

While being questioned by detectives, Scott reportedly admitted to committing numerous vehicle burglaries in Cache County. He explained how he would steal the items and then sell or pawn them at several shops on the Wasatch front. The crimes were so numerous, he could not remember all of the locations nor the items taken.

According to court records, Scott is currently out of jail. He is scheduled to be sentenced July 30, and could face more than five years in prison.
