Kent Daniel Prestwich booking photo from the Cache County Jail
LOGAN — A 46-year-old Lewiston man has confessed to downloading child pornography over the internet for years. Kent Daniel Prestwich was originally arrested Oct. 10, and booked into the Cache County Jail after state agents served a warrant to his home.
Prestwich appeared Monday, Nov. 21, in Logan’s 1st District Court. He accepted a plea deal, pleading guilty to two counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, a second-degree felony.
As part of the resolution, prosecutors agreed to dismiss eight remaining charges.
Investigators first began detecting a computer distributing child pornography files on two different peer-to-peer networks in July 2023. The computer’s IP address was later tracked to Prestwich’s home, where agents with the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force executed a search warrant.
Prestwich admitted to using the desktop computer to download child sexual abuse material. He told investigators he had been viewing child pornography for approximately 15 years. He also admitted to using specific search terms that he knew would obtain files of children being sexually abused.
During Monday’s hearing, Prestwich spoke briefly. He told the court he understood the rights he was giving up in exchange for pleading guilty.
Judge Spencer Walsh ordered Prestwich to remain jail and appear again in court for sentencing, Jan. 8.
According to court records, Prestwich has no criminal history aside from minor traffic citations. He could face up to 15 years in prison.
