LOGAN — A 28-year-old Logan man has been ordered to serve one year in jail for sexually assaulting a woman in Logan Canyon seven years ago. Arthur “Bryar” Robinson, who previously served 15 months in jail on another sexual assault case, was placed in handcuffs and led out of the courtroom, after a judge said he couldn’t overlook the harm the defendant had caused the victim.

Robinson was sentenced Wednesday, Nov. 8, in Logan’s 1st District Court. He previously pleaded “no contest” to four counts of forcible sexual abuse and aggravated assault, both second-degree felonies; and sexual battery, a class A misdemeanor.

As part of the plea resolution, attorneys agreed to allow the forcible sexual abuse charges to be held in abeyance, meaning they didn’t merit a sentence and will be dismissed in a year. The agreement likely spared Robinson from being sent to prison.

The aggravated assault and sexual battery charges stemmed from an incident around November 2016. Robinson had driven the victim into Logan Canyon to go star gazing. The victim told police, after finding a place to park she was strangled and groped by the defendant.

The woman had also described numerous other assaults which resulted in the more severe charges. Robinson had claimed those incidents were consensual and even underwent a polygraph test about the allegations.

During Wednesday’s sentencing, the victim expressed frustration with the legal system and described how she had been dismissed and scrutinized. She defiantly told the court, “This should have never happened to me but it did.”

Robinson said he was not taking care of his mental health when the crimes occurred. He expressed sorrow for what he admittedly done to the victim, and said he would accept the judge’s sentence.

In February, a jury found Robinson guilty of three reduced counts of sexual battery in the first case. He was later ordered to serve 15 months in jail but given credit for time already served.

On Wednesday, Judge Spencer Walsh said he had struggled with the latest case, noting how it had “traumatically and negatively” impacted the victim. He called Robinson’s actions “offensive, violent, extremely egregious, and can’t be tolerated in our society.”

Judge Walsh sentenced Robinson to 364 days in the Cache County Jail but refused to give credit for the 462 days previously served for the other case. He also ordered the defendant to be on probation for up to 36 months and be placed on the sex-offender registry for 10 years.
