LOGAN — A 23-year-old Logan man has pleaded “not guilty” to charges that he sexually assaulted a woman and teenage girl several years ago. Tyler J. Ray entered the plea after a judge bound him over for trial in both criminal cases.

Court records show, Ray appeared in 1st District Court Wednesday morning for a preliminary hearing. He was charged with one count of object rape and five counts of forcible sodomy, all first-degree felonies.

The hearing included recorded interviews with both the alleged victims describing how they were raped repeatedly by Ray at different times. Both women were acquaintances with the defendant.

Prosecutors also played a video of Ray being questioned by law enforcement. He told them his relationships with both women were always consensual. He later admitted though, during times of sexual activity he was unable to control his urges.

Judge Brian Cannell found that prosecutors had sufficient evidence to show the crimes had been committed and bound Ray over on all charges. He also lowered the defendant’s bail to $5,000 but ordered him to have no contact with the alleged victims, if he is released.

Ray is scheduled to appear again in court January 14. He could face up to life in prison if convicted.
