LOGAN — A 24-year-old convicted sex-offender has been sentenced to 40 years in prison for traveling to Cache Valley and raping two Logan teenagers in 2021. Hasan A. Al Ogaili received the maximum sentence after one of the victim’s mother called him a “predator,” who had killed her daughter.

Al Ogaili appeared Dec. 18 in Logan’s 1st District Court. He previously accepted a plea deal, pleading guilty to two counts of rape of a child, two counts of enticing a minor and one count of child kidnapping, all first-degree felonies.

According to prosecutors, the three victims, who were 12 and 13-years-old at the time, told Logan City police officers how they met Al Ogaili on Snapchat and agreed to meet him July 20, 2021. He reportedly drove the girls to a convenience store, where he purchased snacks and electronic cigarettes for them.

The girls told police, Al Ogaili then drove near the Logan Temple and parked. He raped two of them, as they reportedly told him “no” repeatedly and were screaming.

Police were able to locate video and financial transaction information from the convenience store. It showed the defendant purchasing snacks with a debit card, matching the girl’s stories.

During Wednesday’s sentencing, Al Ogaili said he had made a lot of mistakes in his life but hoped to be able to give back to society someday. He blamed his actions on being arrogant and ignorant after his mother died.

Cache County Deputy Attorney Joshua Coe called Al Ogaili “garbage.” He passionately recounted how the defendant had committed these latest crimes five days after being put on probation for similar charges in Farmington. He pleaded with the court not to give the defendant another chance.

One of the victims told the court how she is now scared to sleep at night. She said Al Ogaili had ruined her life.

The girl’s mother pleaded with the court for the maximum sentence possible. She turned around and spoke to Al Ogaili saying, “You aren’t a person, you are a predator.”

Judge Brian Cannell gave Al Ogaili two consecutive sentences of 15-years-to-life in prison, with an additional 10 year enhancement because the crimes occurred after he had been convicted of two similar crimes. He also ordered him to pay $3,812 in restitution.

“You earned every year of this sentence,” Judge Cannell told Al Ogaili. “There is no excuse for what you did. This was your choice.”

The sentence means Al Ogaili will be at least 64-years-old before he is eligible for parole sometime after 2064.
