January 13, 1936 ~ February 26, 2023 (age 87)

John D. Olsen, returned home to his loving Heavenly Father on Sunday, February 26, 2023. He was born January 13, 1936, to Pearl Hansen and Ernest Alonzo Olsen in Deweyville, Utah.

He married Lynda Spackman on August 26, 1959, in Deweyville, Utah. They were sealed in the Logan Temple in 1962. They were married for 42 years. Lynda passed away on November 24, 2001. He married Carole Taylor on July 13, 2002, in Bountiful, Utah. They were married until the time of his passing.

John graduated from Box Elder High School in 1954. He attended Weber State University for 2 years. He received his Bachelor’s from Utah State University in 1959, he then received his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Kansas State University in 1961. John also received his Masters and a Doctorate degree in Animal Physiology from Iowa State University. John worked at the USDA-ARS Poisonous Plant Research Laboratory in Logan, Utah from 1972-2000.

He lived in multiple places throughout his life: Brigham City, Utah; Manhattan, Kansas; St. Paul, Minnesota; Edmonds, Washington; Ames, Iowa; North Logan, Utah; Pleasant View, Utah; and South Jordan, Utah.

John was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he faithfully served in many capacities. John was an example of true Christ-like love and service. He loved unconditionally and without judgement.

He loved airplanes, both watching and flying. He enjoyed bird hunting, gardening, westerns, and cooking. John was a talented pianist, with the ability to play by ear. He enjoyed playing blues and jazz arrangements. He even composed a few of his own pieces. John was known to never turn down a bowl of ice cream or a slice of watermelon.

John is survived by his wife: Carole; children: Derwin J. Olsen, Mark E. Olsen (Michele), Nanette Bowles (Lavar), and Marcie Coleman (D.C.); 13 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife Lynda, his parents, his siblings Margaret Ficklin, Ernest Ross Olsen, Doris Cazier, and GaeNell Jensen.

A viewing will be held at the Myers Mortuary, 205 South 100 East, Brigham City Utah, on Friday, March 3rd, from 5:00-7:00 p.m.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, March 4, 2023, at the Deweyville LDS Chapel, 10750 North Highway 38, Deweyville, Utah, with a viewing from 10:00-10:45 a.m., prior to the funeral at 11:00 am.

Interment will be in the Deweyville Cemetery.

The family would like to thank all the Super Caregivers at Sunridge Assisted Living, for all the service and compassion they showed to John, and the family.
