September 30, 1957 ~ July 25, 2023 (age 65)

Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Joan R. Goodwin, 65, passed away on Tuesday, July 25, 2023.

Joan was born September 30, 1957, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Robert M. and Geraldine H. Rhodes. She was raised in the Brigham City/Perry, Utah area and graduated from Box Elder High School. She then continued her education at Utah State University in Logan, Utah and later graduated from the University of Phoenix with a BA in Business Finance. Joan also learned sign language.

Places of residence include Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; Brigham City, Utah; Perry, Utah; Salem, New Hampshire; Lawrence, Massachusetts; Portland, Connecticut; Corinne, Utah; and Port St. John, Florida.

She married Michael Goodwin in the Salt Lake City Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Their marriage of 44 years would bring three children and five grandchildren and many cherished memories along the way.

Joan blessed many students by sharing her talents and abilities in the areas of piano and dance. She also taught aerobics at the Brigham City Community Hospital. She was a teacher-aide at Foothill Elementary in the Special Needs Unit. Joan retired from the IRS in Ogden, Utah after 13 years of service. After retiring, Joan enjoyed doing delivery of Meals on Wheels with her husband.

Joan has served in various capacities in the church including ward organist for most of her life, primary pianist, Young Women’s President, Relief Society Instructor, and Brigham City Utah Temple Organist.

As a young mother, Joan produced custom-made birthday cakes for her children. She was an accomplished seamstress, canner of produce from her husband’s garden and fruit trees, gardener, pianist/organist, cross stitcher, and avid walker. She enjoyed being around and visiting with her family and friends. Joan loved being Nonni (grandma) to her grandchildren Holden, Harper, Porter, Boston, and Liam and was especially happy when baking cookies or cinnamon rolls with them.

She is survived by her husband, Michael Allan Goodwin, Brigham City, Utah and three children and their spouses; Christopher (Brittany) Goodwin, Idaho Falls, ID; Shauna (Joe) Smith, Olathe, Kansas; Brian (Eric) Goodwin, Farmington, Utah.

The family wishes to express sincere and heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the Brigham City Community Hospital, EMTs, and police force as well as St. Marks Hospital Emergency and ICU staff and the many chaplains who assisted us.

A viewing will be held on Wednesday, August 9, 2023, at Myers Mortuary, 205 South 100 East, Brigham City, Utah from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.

A viewing will also be held on August 10, 2023 at the Brigham City South Stake Center, 865 South 300 West, Brigham City, Utah from 9:30 – 10:45 a.m.

Funeral services will immediately follow this viewing at 11:00 a.m.

Interment will be in the Brigham City Cemetery following the funeral.
