October 26, 1936 – March 17, 2023 (age 86)

Jean Louise Mortimer, age 87 of Hyrum Utah passed away from heart failure on March 17, 2023 with her beloved husband Melvin Hugh Martin by her side. Jeanie was born October 26, 1936 in the District of Columbia, United States to George Harding Mortimer and Veda Jane Porter. After Jeannie graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, she taught in elementary schools for many years. In addition, she taught private piano, organ, and vocal lessons.

As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints she had many callings, including organist, chorister, and music chairman. She was also a member of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir from 1985 to 1993 during which she traveled all over the world sharing her belief in the Godhead and the atonement of Jesus Christ through music.

Alongside her husband, Jeannie served two missions for the church, one to the Freiburg Germany LDS temple from 2008-2009 and to the Washington Spokane Mission Montana from 2013-2014.

Jeannie was genuinely interested in the lives of everyone she met. Her smiles, loving gestures, and infectious laugh brightened the lives of many people. She especially loved her grandchildren and nieces and nephews. She faced the trials in her life without complaint, and often expressed gratitude for any service offered her.

She is survived by her husband Melvin Martin, her children David Mortimer Williamson and Elaine Louise Williamson Tingey, James Fuller Martin and Christopher Thomas Martin, and her brother William John Mortimer.
