LOGAN – Motivational speaker Mike Schlappi and the Cole Hartly Band will be headliners at the “Ignite the Light” concert on Saturday, Sept. 7.
That free outdoor event, jointly sponsored by the Cache County Community Foundation and Cache Suicide Prevention Coalition, will take place from 4 to 10 p.m. at the Cache County Fairgrounds.
The concert’s organizers explain that “Ignite the Light” is a metaphor for encouraging people to be content with themselves. It means to ignite or light up one’s inner spark or passion to let it shine brightly for the world to see.
The event will have fun family activities, suicide prevention and mental health resource booths, a luminaria walk, food trucks and more.
The concert will lead off with artists from Seize the Night Records from 4 to 6 p.m.
Seize the Night Records is a benefit recording label that works with local artists and musicians to raise awareness and funds towards suicide prevention through positivity oriented content creation.
Next on the concert schedule is Schlappi, a motivation speaker who is confined to a wheelchair.
At the age of 14, Schlappi was a student body president, an Eagle Scout and a competitive athlete when he was involved in a tragic shooting accident.
Despite his disability, Schlappi has become a four-time Paralympic Medalist and two-time World Champion in Wheelchair Basketball. In 2000, he was honored by the state of Utah as one of the top 50 athletes of the past century.
Schlappi’s inspirational message is that you don’t have to be able to stand up to stand out.
The evening will close with music from the Cole Hartly Band.
A native of Alpine, Hartley is an award-winning songwriter and Nashville recording artist with a genuine western background in rodeos, hunting and fishing activities.
He tours all over the western United States and has shared the stage with the likes of Diamond Rio, Joe Nichols, Aaron Tippin, Uncle Kracker, Lee Brice, Filmore and many others.
Co-sponsors of the “Ignite the Light” concert include Cache County, Cache Valley Bank, Cache Valley Counseling, Cache Valley Electric, Cache Valley Media Group, Choules Financial, Intermountain Health, Christopherson Heating and Air, Logan Regional Hospital, Lowry and Associates and Rocky Mountain Power.
