LOGAN — Law enforcement has released the identity of the inmate who died at the Cache County Jail. Kaden Lee Saunders, 22, died after deputies found him unresponsive inside his cell Wednesday afternoon.

Cache County Sheriff Chad Jensen said investigators are waiting for the Utah State Medical Examiner’s report to determine cause of death.

Saunders was found unconscious and not breathing inside his cell at approximately 2:45 p.m. April 17. Deputies along with onsite medical staff immediately started CPR and deployed an automated external defibrillator (AED).

Paramedics from the Logan City Fire Department were called to the jail and continued lifesaving measures on Saunders. Despite their efforts, he was unable to be resuscitated, and pronounced dead.

Due to the incident occurring at the jail, the sheriff contacted the Cache County Attorney’s Office and initiated the Northern Utah Critical Incident Investigative Team. Per protocol, an outside agency will be investigating the incident.

Jensen said the sheriff’s office will also conduct its own internal investigation into the death.

Saunders was from Logan.
