LOGAN — A 34-year-old Hyde Park man has pleaded guilty to a second incident of abusing a child. Jared Alan Salmon accepted a plea deal in the latest case that could send him to prison for up to one year.

Salmon appeared Monday in Logan’s 1st District Court. He pleaded guilty to aggravated child abuse, amended to a third-degree felony.

According to prosecutors, Cache County Sheriff’s deputies were called to an elementary school in September. It was reported that Salmon had assaulted a student.

The incident occurred during the school’s parent teacher back to school conferences that Salmon was attending.

Deputies learned the victim had been taken to an emergency room, where it was determined he had a brain concussion.

Investigators were able to view school security camera footage, showing Salmon hurting the student. The boy was seen rolling on a cushion, with another student. One of the cushions hit Salmon’s wife, supposedly angering the defendant.

The video showed Salmon standing over the young boy for a moment. He then yanked the cushion out from under the child, causing him to hit his head against a wall.

According to court records, Salmon was charged with child abuse, a second-degree felony, following another incident in Sept. 2021. However, as a three-day trial of the case was set to begin Nov. 1, the defendant pleaded guilty.

During Monday’s hearing, Judge Spencer Walsh ordered Salmon to meet with probation agents and complete a presentence report about his criminal history.

Salmon remains out of jail on $12,000 bail. He is scheduled to be sentenced for Jan. 29.
