SALT LAKE CITY — An investigation is underway after human bones were discovered buried in the sand on the Idaho side of Bear Lake, according to law enforcement.

According to news release by the Bear Lake County Sheriff’s Office, law enforcement received a call from the beachgoers around 11:42 a.m., according to a press release. The callers had been digging in the sand when they found the bones.

Officials said they are working with the Idaho State University Anthropology Department “to examine the site and recover any other remains.”

“The Bear Lake County Sheriff’s Office does not currently have any cold cases or unrecovered individuals that may be linked to these remains,” officials said.

The incident remained under investigation.
