February 3, 1930 ~ February 13, 2023 (age 93)
Our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, Geraldine (Gerrie) Hanni Rhodes, 93, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 13, 2023.
Geraldine was born February 3, 1930 in Sugar City, Idaho to Walter H. and Martha R. Hanni. She was raised in Garland, Utah and graduated from Bear River High School. She then continued her education and graduated as a Registered Nurse from Dee Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Ogden, Utah.
She married the late Robert M. Rhodes on October 24, 1952 in the Logan Utah Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Their marriage of 60 years would bring four children, ten grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and many cherished memories along the way.
Geraldine spent her nursing career as a registered nurse at Logan Hospital and later at Cooley Hospital, Bear River Health Department, and Pioneer Care Center in Brigham City, Utah. Having been formally trained by Dr. Irving Wassermann of Utah State University, she later taught piano lessons to many children in Perry, Utah and served for decades as an organist for the Ogden Utah Temple and in her LDS Perry Ward. She was an active member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers and volunteered as a reading tutor for the Box Elder School District. She loved people and especially enjoyed her visiting teaching assignments.
Born of parents who immigrated from Switzerland, Geraldine loved her Swiss heritage and everything associated with Switzerland. Her family anxiously looked forward to her annual baking of ‘Swiss Christmas Bread’. She was an accomplished baker, canner, seamstress, and musician. Most of all, she was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who was adored by all.
She is survived by four children and their spouses; Del (Susan) Rhodes, Bountiful; Joan (Michael) Goodwin, Brigham City; Jill (Brent) Gray, Farmington; and Lloyd (Shawna) Rhodes, Brigham City.
The family wishes to express our sincere and heartfelt appreciation to all those who have lovingly cared for our sweet mother. A special thanks to the compassionate staff of Bristol Hospice, Drs. Justin B. Watkins & Lynn Q. Beard, and the ‘beyond amazing’ staff at Beehive Homes of Perry, Utah.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. at Myers Mortuary, 205 South 100 East, Brigham City, Utah.
A Viewing will be held prior to the service from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Interment will be in the Brigham City Cemetery.
