LOGAN — Emergency crews were called to a building fire early Saturday morning, later finding a woman dead inside, according to law enforcement. The blaze was reported at 7:43 a.m. near 817 West 1000 South.

Logan City Police Capt. Shand Nazer confirmed the woman was found deceased inside the home. Her identity is not being released, pending notification of family.

Logan City Fire Marshall Craig Humphreys said firefighters received a report of the fire by a 911 caller. While en route, the complainant said that one of the five occupants was missing.

“When the fire department arrived, said Humphreys, “we had smoke and flames coming from the room where the female was identified to be located. Firefighters made an aggressive search to rescue the individual, and an aggressive fire attack. During that process we located the deceased female.”

The four other occupants of the building were all able to safely evacuate without any injuries.

Nazer said investigators are continuing to determine the circumstances surrounding the cause of the fire. The origin of the blaze has yet to be determined.

Humphreys explained that the fire appears to have started in the room where the woman was found. It was a small apartment type room that had a kitchenette.

“Most of the fire damage was located to the room where the victim was located. However, there was smoke and heat extension through the rest of the building.”

Nazer explained that victim advocates from the Cache County Attorney’s Office were called to the scene to help those affected by the fire. The American Red Cross also responded to provide assistance.

Humphreys said firefighter’s first priority in a situation like this is to provide help to the victim’s family. Their hearts go out to all those impacted by this tragedy.

“We offer our condolences to the family and wish them the best as they work through this process.”

None of the firefighters or emergency crews reported any other injuries while extinguishing the blaze.
