BOX ELDER COUNTY β€” A local firefighter is being recognized for going beyond the call of duty to support an elderly resident and her family during a medical emergency Wednesday morning.

Crews from the Garland Fire Department were dispatched to a residence to assist an elderly woman who had fallen. While the woman required immediate transport to the hospital, the work did not end with the medical intervention for Firefighter Bengtzen.

After the patient was safely under the care of hospital staff, Bengtzen remained at the home to clean the scene of the accident. Officials said the gesture was intended to ensure that when the woman’s family returned, they could focus entirely on her recovery rather than the cleanup of a traumatic event.

“It’s a simple act, but one rooted in compassion and service,” the department said in a statement. “Garland Fire Department is proud of our firefighters and grateful for their professionalism, dedication, and heart for the community we serve.”

The department used the incident as a reminder for residents to look out for one another during the holiday season. With Christmas approaching, fire officials encouraged community members to check in on neighbors, friends, and family, noting that small acts of kindness can have a lasting impact.

“From all of us at the Garland Fire Department, we wish you a Merry Christmas and a safe, peaceful holiday season,” the department stated.
