LOGAN — Firefighters have determined the cause of a fire Tuesday near Benson that destroyed several vehicles and a trailer. The fire was reported around 3:40 p.m. near 1639 North 3200 West.

Cache County Fire Marshal Jason Winn that when firefighters arrived on the scene, they found flames coming from a horse trailer and several abandoned cars. There were no homes or other structures in the area.

Firefighters from the Logan City Fire Department closed a section of 3200 West near the fire while they extinguished the blaze.

Winn explained that three men were reportedly renting the property for housing various animals, and storing personal items. Earlier in the day, they had built a fire in a burn barrel to stay warm, before leaving in the afternoon.

Firefighters suspect embers from the barrel ignited nearby brush and started the blaze. Flames then spread to the nearby vehicles and the trailer that was filled with personal items.

There were no injuries reported. The amount of damage from the fire is still being determined.

Winn said the incident is a reminder that fire danger is still high even as the weather changes.
