BOX ELDER COUNTY — A fire was extinguished at a residence in Brigham City after officials said it spread from someone who was illegally burning weeds and brush.

Firefighters responded to the area of 2011 North 2800 West at approximately 3 p.m. on Sunday.

Flames had reportedly been threatening a single-family home and duplex

Brigham City police and Box Elder County Sheriff’s deputies responded to help with traffic control and make sure residents were evacuated from the home.

All residents were safely able to get out, with no injuries reported.

Officials later learned through their investigation that someone was burning weeds and brush illegally.

A press release stated, “The fire spread faster than expected, catching a nearby residence on fire.”

Officials asked people to avoid the area while the investigation continued.

Police said the case will be screened through the First District Court for charges.
