LOGAN — Firefighters were called to a barn fire Sunday night that may have been human caused. The blaze was reported just before 7 p.m. at 468 S. 200 West in Logan.

According to emergency radio traffic, witnesses told 911 dispatch operators the fire was possibly started by a juvenile in the area.

Logan City Fire Marshal Craig Humphreys said heavy flames were coming from the barn when firefighters arrived on the scene. The barn was in the middle of the block and difficult for crews to access directly.

Once on site, firefighters reported flames coming from several gas cans in the barn. Fire had also spread into the walls and roof of the structure.

Humphreys said there were no occupants inside the barn or injuries reported.

Firefighters were able to keep flames from spreading to any neighboring structures.

The barn, which was estimated to be around 100 years old, was determined to be a total loss.

Humphreys couldn’t confirm whether or not the fire was human caused until an investigation was completed.
