NIBLEY — A family is safe after a house fire early Tuesday morning at 4430 Hollow Rd. Cache county dispatch report the two-alarm fire was reported at 4:00 a.m.

Hyrum City Fire Chief Kevin Maughan said the fire was already spreading through the house when the first crews arrived on the scene.

“The fire had already breached through the roof,” said Maughan. “It continued through the attic and pretty much consumed the majority of the structure.”

The family was in the house at the time of the fire and was able to escape without injury.

Maughan said the fire started in the kitchen and spread through the attic and into the garage.

Crews remained on the scene until 7:30 a.m. As they extinguished the last remaining hot spots, the family began trying to remove what valuables they could from the house.

Later Tuesday, investigators determined the cause of the fire was an electrical short in a junction box, located in the kitchen area.

Maughan said the house is a complete loss.  Damage is estimated at $135,000.

Crews from Hyrum, Paradise, Wellsville, Logan, North Logan and the Cache County Fire District reported to the fire. There were no injuries.
