A Utah Department of Health (UDOH) report Thursday lists 37 new COVID deaths, although 33 of those deaths occurred before Feb. 24 of this year. Through 24 months of the pandemic, 4,681 Utahns have lost their lives to COVID-19; that includes 240 in Northern Utah.

From the time that case counts have decreased in Utah, epidemiologists across the state started a review of past death certificates in an effort to assure that all COVID-19 deaths are included. With 110 deaths reported since Tuesday, 95 of those cases were identified through that review process.

Thursday UDOH reported 152 new COVID positive cases since Wednesday.

Since the pandemic started in March, 2020, there have been 927,165 positive cases in Utah, which includes about 52,000 in Cache, Box Elder and Rich counties. Since the outbreak began over 2,000 in the Bear River Health District have been hospitalized.

Hospitalizations due to COVID, reported Thursday, dropped again to 109,11 fewer patients than Wednesday. Among those currently hospitalized, 20 are in intensive care, the same number as Wednesday. Since the pandemic began 33,913 Utahns have been hospitalized.

With 2,138 people vaccinated since Wednesday, the number of Utahns fully vaccinated stands at more than 1.99 million, 61 percent of the state’s population. Almost five million doses have been administered.

Nearly 60 percent of the population in northern Utah is totally vaccinated. More than 260,000 total doses have been administered in the Bear River Health District. Total population of Utah’s three northern counties is 186,818.

3,242 Utahns were tested since Wednesday which means more than 4.65 million people have been tested and almost 9.4 million total tests have been administered the last 24 months.

As case counts decline, Utah’s new rolling seven-day average for positive tests is 124 a day; two months ago it was 10,762 a day.

The latest seven-day rolling average for percent positivity of “people over people” is 4.7 percent while the rolling seven-day average for percent positivity of “tests over tests” is 2.7 percent.

Idaho’s Thursday COVID update indicates 4,860 coronavirus deaths and a new total of confirmed COVID-19 cases is 443,309 statewide.
