LOGAN — Emergency crews are asking motorists to slow down, especially in the canyons, after being called to two accidents involving speed.
The Logan City Fire Department said first-responders were dispatched to two separate crashes Sunday in Logan Canyon, US-89. The first was a single-vehicle rollover accident, and the second was a single motorcycle accident.
There were only minor injuries sustained in both crashes. No other vehicles were involved.
In a statement on social media, the fire department said, “We would like to remind everyone that there is increased traffic in the canyon during the summer months so please drive carefully. Slow down and enjoy the beautiful sights.”
Right now marks the “100 Deadliest Days” on Utah roads, the time between Memorial Day and Labor Day when the number of fatal accidents historically increase.
In May, officials rolled out a new Zero Fatalities “Back to Basics” campaign focusing on the basics of safe driving practices.
According to the Utah Department of Transportation; there are four main leading causes of all crashes on Utah roads:
- Following too closely
- Failed to yield right-of-way
- Too fast for conditions
- Unsafe lane change / failure to keep in proper lane
