LOGAN – Friday night the seventh and final presentation in this year’s Science Unwrapped series at Utah State University should grab your attention, especially with recent earth shakers in Taiwan and New York City.
Dr. Alexis Ault will present “Energy Transformations: Earthquakes and Hot Rocks” Friday, April 12 at 7 p.m. in the Emert Auditorium of the Eccles Science Learning Center.
Ault is an associate professor in the Department of Geosciences. She said energy during an earthquake is transformed into high temperature on a fault or goes into breaking rocks.
“These energy transformations are mostly hidden from us, but they are powerful because they allow an earthquake rupture to propagate,” she said.
Science Unwrapped is a public outreach program from USU’s College of Science. It will return Friday, Sept. 13 with the new season’s theme, “Joining Forces,” emphasizing interdisciplinary research on campus.
Admission is free and all ages are welcome to view hands-on learning activities led by USU student groups and community volunteers. Refreshments will follow Dr.Ault’s talk.
