TREMONTON — The Cache County Fair and Rodeo just finished, but there are more county fairs to come in our area, including the Box Elder County Fair that will be held August 22nd through the 27th at the fairgrounds in Tremonton.  The theme is “Ribbons, Rides & Rodeo”.

On KVNU’s For the People program on Tuesday, fair director Jan Rhodes said there is a Kick-off concert this week – Thursday night featuring country music artist Eddie Montgomery of Montgomery Gentry fame, then the main events kick-off Monday.

“We have over 800 exhibits in the livestock show of kids 4-H and FFA projects through the summer. Some of these kids projects started the week after last year’s fair with their steers. Just a couple years ago we started having the goat show, and so now we have our market lamb show and a market steer show and then now we have the goat show. So we pretty well cover most of the agricultural animals here,”  she said.

Rhodes said the fair really emphasizes agriculture and is even a venue for high school reunions.

It’s 97 years old this year, it started out with just volunteers and it’s still volunteers, (that’s) what makes our fair work. We have high school reunions planned around our county fair, so they can go to the rodeo one night during their high school reunion. It’s pretty much a family affair, people plan their vacations here.”

She said that is kind of the way it’s always been and hopefully will keep going that way.
