CACHE COUNTY — The members of the Cache County Clerk/Auditor’s staff are preparing for what they intend to be a “transparent, safe and secure election for the citizens of Cache County” in November.
As a kick-off for the general election cycle, Clerk/Auditor Jess Bradfield is inviting local residents to an open house at his ballot-processing center at the Logan/Cache Airport.
That event will be held on Friday, Oct. 14 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Bradfield said that his staff will demonstrate how incoming ballots are handled, counted and, if necessary, tracked.
The Cache County ballot processing center is located at 2785 Airport Drive at the Logan/Cache Airport.
The statewide election will be conducted by mail, as usual. Bradfield said that ballots will go out in the mail to county residents during the week of Oct. 17.
Completed ballots can be returned any time after that. All ballots returned by the U.S. Postal Service must be post marked by Nov. 8 to be valid.
Voters can also deposit their ballots in official drop-boxes at various locations throughout the county until 8 p.m. on Nov. 8.
For the first time this year, voters will be able to track the status of their mail-in ballots from dropping them in the mail to acceptance at the county clerks office by going to https://ballottrax.utah.gov/voter/
Election security is always a priority, but especially now in the wake of what some still mistakenly consider the disputed election of 2020.
Lt. Gov. Deidre Henderson, whose office oversees elections in Utah, and Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) released a joint statement guaranteeing election security in the upcoming balloting.
“In Utah, we have worked hard to ensure our elections are among the most secure in the nation,” their statement reads.
“Furthermore, we are continually evaluating what is working and what needs improvement. “As a result, eligible Utahns can be fully confident their vote will be secure, secret and counted accurately.
“The dilution of power in election administration, combined with multiple checks, balances and safeguards,” they assured voters, “makes mass interference in our vote counting virtually impossible.”
For those preferring to vote in person, early voting will take place at the Cache County Administration Building from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Nov. 1 to Nov. 4.
The Cache County Administration Building is located at 179 North Main Street in Logan.
In-person balloting will also be available on Election Day (Nov. 8) at the Cache County Event Center, from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
The Cache County Event Center is located at 490 South, 500 West in Logan.
In their joint statement, Henderson and Lee praised federalism as a core tenant of the U.S. Constitution.
“Federal and state elections are administered, overseen and conducted by state and local officials …” they wrote. “American elections take place across 3,006 counties in 50 states. County clerks, secretaries of state and lieutenant governors know their communities, states and election systems.
“In Utah, our neighbors, friends and community leaders run elections,” they added.
Election Day in Utah will be Tuesday, Nov. 8.
