LOGAN — A 23-year-old Cornish man has pleaded guilty for his involvement in a domestic dispute that occurred in October. Daniel Aguirre has been in the Cache County Jail since the victim contacted law enforcement, explaining how she had been assaulted by the defendant after the two had been drinking.
According to court records, Aguirre appeared Nov. 17 in Logan’s 1st District Court. He accepted a plea deal, pleading guilty to kidnapping, amended to a second-degree felony; and aggravated assault, a third-degree felony. Three remaining charges were dismissed.
According to prosecutors, Cache County Sheriff’s deputies were called to investigate after the victim reported the abuse to a family relative the day after it occurred. The woman said she accidentally broke a kitchen table, causing Aguirre to snap and begin assaulting her.
The woman said the Cornish man, whom she was in a relationship with, grabbed her by the hair and began dragging her through parts of the house. He also put his hands around her neck and began choking her, before she hit him with a vape pen and fled into a bathroom.
Aguirre reportedly kicked the bathroom door several times attempting to get to the woman. Eventually, he left the home after putting a hole in the door and causing it to break off its hinges.
Deputies went to the home on Oct. 20 to question and later arrest Aguirre. They observed damage to the kitchen table and bathroom door as the victim had described.
Aguirre is scheduled to be sentenced Jan. 5. He could face up to 15 years in prison.
