LOGAN — A 23-year-old Cornish man has been arrested following a domestic dispute on Sunday, according to law enforcement. Daniel Aguirre was booked Monday into the Cache County Jail after the alleged victim described being assaulted by the suspect after the two had been drinking.
According to an affidavit of probable cause, Cache County Sheriff’s deputies were called to investigate after the alleged victim reported the abuse to a family relative the day after it reportedly occurred. The woman claimed she accidentally broke a kitchen table, causing Aguirre to snap and begin assaulting her.
The woman claimed the Cornish man, whom she was in a relationship with, grabbed her by the hair and began dragging her through parts of the house. He also reportedly put his hands around her neck and began choking her, before she hit him with a vape pen and fled into a bathroom.
Aguirre allegedly kicked the bathroom door several times attempting to get to the woman. Eventually, he left the home after putting a hole in the door and causing it to break off its hinges.
Deputies went to the home on Oct. 20 to question and later arrest Aguirre. They observed damage to the kitchen table and bathroom door as the alleged victim had described.
Aguirre made an initial appearance Wednesday in Logan’s 1st District Court. He was charged with aggravated kidnapping, a first-degree felony; aggravated assault, a third-degree felony; along with misdemeanors for property damage and interrupting a communication device.
Judge Brian Cannell ordered Aguirre to remain temporarily in jail after prosecutors requested no bail due to the severity of the charges. He assigned the suspect a public defender and ordered him to appear again in court Oct. 27.
