HYRUM-The wood dance floor of Elite Hall in Hyrum City was recently restored and the city is holding a community dance to bring attention to it and celebrate the refinished and bouncy spring-loaded wooden dance floor.
The dance will be held this Saturday Nov. 9 from 7 to 10 p.m. The Utah State Historic Preservation Office provided a grant to pay for not only the floor but the under-structure repairs that were needed.
“It’s been a long process, but we are just thrilled with the exquisite new dance floor,” said Hyrum City Museum Director Jami Van Huss. “The floor looks and bounces like it did when it was brand new over 100 years ago and we want everyone to enjoy the unique experience of dancing on a spring-loaded dance floor.”
The dance will feature popular tunes from each of the decades over the last hundred-plus years since 1915, the year the Elite Hall was built.
“This is a community event, and everyone is invited, and we will be accepting a $5 donation per person or $20 for immediate families to go toward the continued restoration efforts of the hall.” Van Huss said. “The next project is focused on the main entrance and will include new doors and windows.”
There are also plans in place to build an annex on the east side of the building to improve accessibility, efficiency, and functionality of the space.
“The potential for this building is incredible and I’m excited for everyone to experience the space for themselves,” she said. “The Hyrum Heritage Foundation is managing the restoration process and accepts tax-deductible donations.
The Hyrum City Museum is also lunching their winter free family movie series this Friday, November 8th with Despicable Me 4.
“We project a movie on to a big screen once a month November through March and it’s free for everyone to attend.” Van Huss said. “People are encouraged to wear cozy clothes and bring blankets, pillows, sleeping bags, camp chairs, and their own food to enjoy the movie.”
“With such a big space, it’s a great way to get the kids out and let them run around a little during the winter.” The doors open at 6:30 pm and the movie starts at 7:00 pm.
