HYRUM – Hyrum City Museum is holding its 10th annual Hyrum Hot Wheels car show on Saturday June 3, from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.

Brett Lyon and his wife Karen stand behind their 1931 Model A street rod on Wed, May 31, 2023.

Brett Lyon, a car show enthusiast from Hyrum, is going to enter a 1931 Model A Street Rod, a 1971 Ford Torino an ’83 Ford Mustang and a vintage mower garden tractor into the Hyrum Hot Wheels car show.

“I pretty much have been a car show supporter from when it started 10 years ago,” Lyon said. “My business (The Tractor Guy) also sponsors an award as a way of giving back to the community and helping people get involved in the Hyrum car show.”

The Model A Street-Rod is a head turner with its metallic blue paint, pin stripping and chrome extras.

“I was listening to KVNU’s Trading Post and someone wanted $1,000 for the 1931 Model A,” he said. “There were two other bidders and I told them to give me a call if the other ones fell through.”

Brett Lyon, a car enthusiast from Hyrum, detailed the grill on this 1931 Model A Street Rod.

They called back and the car was still there. He took them the money bought the car. It was in pieces. Lyon thought he could put it together and flip it. But when he got it home a lined up all the parts, he looked it over and decided this was a car he couldn’t part with.

Restoring and rebuilding cars is more of a lifestyle than a hobby,” he said. “It took me two years to complete the car and with a 351 Cleveland Ford Marque engine and a new transmission.”

People have tried to buy it, but he is not taking any offers.

“The car had a single bullet hole in it,” he said. “I decided to call the car Thelma Lou. I couldn’t call it Barney One Bullet.”

Not only is Lyon entering his three cars and a lawn tractor in this weekend’s show he also gives one of the 10 awards to other car show enthusiasts.

Hyrum Museum Director Jami Van Huss said this show is the museum’s biggest fundraising event. The show will be held at the Hyrum City Square again this year.

Van Huss said she has about 70 cars registered for this Saturday’s Hyrum Hot Wheels Car Show. Some will show up and pay the $20 entry fee the day of the event.

“We usually have about 100 to 120 cars at our car show,” she said. “We have everything from expensive cars that people haven’t fixed up at all.”

She said they will have all kinds of different vehicles including trucks and tractors, even lawn tractors.

“We will have a 2023 Corvette and a 1923 Model T, a little of everything,” Van Huss said. “The show is small and a lot of people like the hometown feel of our car show.”

Organizers have invited several food trucks so people can bring their appetites with them and have a variety of foods to try.

This year, they have A Bite to Eat, Wellsville Cone, Rollin West BBQ, Margo’s Pop N Go, Honey Marie’s Barbecue, Sam Tribe Navajo Taco and Texas Twister.

Prizes will be awarded through out the day. For more information go to hyrumcitymuseum.org.
