LOGAN — A 40-year-old Clearfield woman has admitted to stealing thousands of dollars from a Logan company. Chelsie Nicole Candia is reported to have taken approximately $50,000 while employed with the rental property management company in 2021.
According to court records, Candia appeared April 7 in Logan’s 1st District Court. She accepted a plea deal, pleading guilty to theft/deception, a second-degree felony.
As part of the agreement, prosecutors dismissed two remaining charges.
According to court documents, Logan City Police officers were contacted by a regional manager of the property company in March 2022. He explained how Candia had taken tenant’s rent payments and fees for parking stall passes while she was supposed to be overseeing multiple apartment complexes.
Several tenants said Candia had moved them into vacant apartments and would have them pay their rent directly to her. Another tenant explained how he had purchased a parking stall pass from the defendant but his vehicle was still towed.
The company had launched their own internal investigation after receiving multiple complaints. Additional tenants claimed they had paid Candia either through various mobile apps or a bank account that was registered to the defendant’s cousin.
Police interviewed the family member. She explained how Candia had asked to use the account while her company set up its own rent collection app.
Candia was arrested and booked into the Cache County Jail after a warrant was issued by a judge. She was later released after posting $10,000 bail.
According to court staff, Candia is scheduled to be sentenced May 19, when she could face up to 15 years in prison.
