SALT LAKE CITY — A 34-year-old Clarkston woman has been arrested for allegedly assaulting a couple at her home in July, according to deputies. Stephanie Guthrie was booked Tuesday night into the Cache County Jail after she reportedly had been on the run.

According to an arrest report, Cache County Sheriff’s deputies were called to investigate the aggravated assault on July 12. The alleged victim described being physically assaulted by Guthrie and her 36-year-old partner, Sonny Murphy.

The woman told deputies that she, her boyfriend and their two children went to Guthrie’s house on July 11, and were later invited to stay the night. Guthrie and Murphy had allegedly been consuming alcohol during the evening.

The alleged victim explained that in the middle of the night, Guthrie entered the room and dragged her out of bed by her hair. She then began violently assaulting her.

Murphy reportedly entered the room and joined in the attack, kicking and punching the woman more than 20 times, the affidavit described.

The alleged victim, her boyfriend and children were eventually able to leave the house, calling law enforcement the next day.

Guthrie and Murphy reportedly called the alleged victim after the attack, apologizing and discouraging her from seeking medical care. They also expressed a desire to remain friends. Several of the calls were recorded and given to law enforcement.

Deputies report, the alleged victim was treated for her injuries. She had bruising to her face, extremities and marks on her neck.

Murphy was arrested July 12, and is being held in jail without bail. He has been charged with aggravated assault, a third-degree felony.

Deputies questioned Guthrie after the offense was reported but she fled the area and was missing until Tuesday. She was booked into jail on suspicion of aggravated assault and committing a violent offense in the presence of a child. She is being held, pending arraignment on formal charges in 1st District Court.

Individuals arrested and charged in complaints are presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
